SAC Staff Association Day; Platimum for Fr Leo D’Souza

24 Feb. It was the annual staff association day at SAC. The degree lecturers with their families and specially with the little ones were present in the auditoirum to let loose their hair.

In the meantime, Fr Leo D’Souza, the former principal of the College, and Director of Laboratory of Applied Biology & Aloysius Boys’ Home (ABH, Ullal) had a wonderful celebration at ABH on the occasion of his 75th birthday (on 29 February!) Almost entire Jesuit residence was there!

 Get pumping your spirits…

24 Feb. The pumps have been repaired and calibrated. Water is gushing forth, in fact, much faster. Will the lost classes be redeemed? If at all the politicians are bothered.

Amidst the examinations and reexaminations at SAC, there is feverish activity to make Shooting Stars-2007 a success. Lots of things in the offing.

Classes Closed, But Life Continues

22 Feb. The Students had thronged the college campus; but they were told ‘no classes’/ they could neither go home nor have classes. A full day gallavanting! Does sound good for education? How will 3 days of consecutive holidays solve the water problem? And if a school/ college has made some alternative arrangements?

Mockery of all: In the evening -after the holiday was declared-  DC’s circular arrives saying we can have a regular classes IF WE CAN!

College Day or Holidays?

20 Feb. In the wake of the water shortage problems in the Mangalore city, the district administration has declared a 3-day holiday to all the schools and colleges in the city limits.

That mean, the final year graduation students have less time to be at the College and prepare for their final examinations.

It could be recalled that a 35-year old valve at the vented dam in Thumbe (near Mangalore) burst, disrupting  water supply. It is political as usual – politicians rush to the spot and announce holidays, in stead of doing their work.

Ash Wednesday is the Church’s was of repenting for its unworthiness to the Lord. It is a call to improve our lives. In keeping this holy day, the institution hopes to inculcate a humane and realistic dimension in its “public” so as to bring in a harmonious living.

Fr Eugene Lobo SJ, Principal, celebrated the Holy Mass at 12.30 pm in the beautiful chapel.

MU LIC Visits SAC

2o Feb. Mangalore University Local Inspection Committe visited the St Aloysius College to inspect its Post Graduate departments.

The Committee was to look into the infrastructural facilities available in the college. Another perspective is that of autonomy to post graduate courses, which the Unviersity grudges to give, in spite of the UGC’s desire to grant autonomy to over 500 college by the end of this year!

Probably, we will have three more post graduate courses in the coming year, if things go on well.
