Astro Club Stretches It’s Aim to Stars
Astro Club of St. Aloysius College, Mangalore in collaboration with the association of Physics Teachers of Mangalore University and ISRO Bangalore organized a special programme on October 6, 2007 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of launching of the satellite SPUTNIK.
Dr. Aravind Kumar, head of GEOSAT, ISRO inaugurated the programme. Rev.Fr. Swebert D’Silva, Principal, Prof. Ronald Pinto, Vice-Principal were present in the dias.
Chief guest Dr. Kumar spoke about how the satellites are launched to space and also about the importance of satellite launching for agricultural purpose and to view the entire surface. Students from St. Agnes, Canara college etc were present along with the students of our college. Student-scientist interaction and video show on Launching a satellite was also held. Exhibition of the satellite models was also arranged by the students.

EpITome’07
St. Aloysius Institute of Computer Science Mangalore, organized epITome ’07 a national level intercollegiate IT fest. It was a two day fest which took place on 4th and 5th of Oct. 2007.
The chief guest of the inaugural function was Mr. Bharat Kumar, vice president of Cambridge Integrated Service India Pvt. Ltd. The guest of honor’ captain John Prasad Menezes former president of Canara chamber commerce Mangalore. Rev. Fr. Francis Serrao S.J rector of St. Aloysius institution presided over the function. Rev. Fr. Denzil Lobo S.J director of AICS was present on the dais.
Students from different colleges took participated in this fest. Participants took part in various events such as marketing, web designing, gaming, quiz, treasure hunting etc.

AL – MADHYAM WINDS UP FOR THIS SEMESTER
Al Madhyam conducted a Concluding Meeting for this Term on 4th of October.The feedback of students regarding activities of this term was taken for the future betterment of the association. The Attendence Position of the students was clarified.Mrs. Nirmala Muliyal the Association President was also present.
AL- MADHYAM CONDUCTS ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION
Al- Madhyam Conducted an Essay writing Competition on 27th of September.The topics of the Essay’s were SEZ (Special Economic Zone in Mangalore), ICL Vs. BCCI and Indo US Nuclear Deal. Mr. Norbert Lobo was the Judge for this Competition.
Mrs. Nirmala Muliyal President of Association and Sandhya D’Souza Secretary were also present.
HOPKINS CONDUCTS AN REFRESHMENT SESSION
Hopkins Conducted a General Meeting on 26th of September. It was just a refreshment session to make the students relax after the stressful Exam Week. Sangeetha Gopi of Final year B.A and Danusha Gokulan, Secretary of the association conducted the meeting. Mrs. Sylvia Rego, the association president was also present.
AUTONOMY CONFERRED ON SAC
With the formal inauguration of the autonomy status conferred up St Aloysius College on September 21 Friday, 2007, a new page is added into the glorius history of St. Aloysius College.
It masked a red letter day for the entire student, staff and teaching community. The chief guests who graced the occasion were : Sri. M. Veerappa Moily, who presently is the chairman of the administrative reforms commission of the government of India, Sri B. Nagaraja Shetty, honourable minister for Fisheries, Endowment and D.K. District- in – charge and Rev. Fr Vijay Kumar Prabhu, SJ the provincial of the Jesuits of Karnataka Province.
The inauguration Commenced with a meaningful prayer song and dance as a sign of gratitude to God for the gift of autonomy. Thereafter, a short video presentation followed highlighting some of the major achievements of the college.
During the programme Dr. N Damondar Shetty was felicited by the college for his immense contribution to the development of the kannada literature and folk lore.
Addressing the gathering, Mr Moily in his inaugural speech said that education must equip us to answer the challenges of time. Education with inclusiveness and excellence was the need of the hour” he said. He also stressed the importance of setting an environment essential for learning.
Later Sri. Nagaraj Shetty, himself an ex- alumini, said that the days are not far when St. Aloysius College would turn out into a deemed university. He Hoped that the institution would continue to serve the youth with excellence and innovation. After that Fr. Vijay Prabhu during his speech, assured the gathering that the College, given its dedicated staff and intelligent students would rise up to the occasion and fulfill all expectations mentioned by the ministries.
The dais was also shared by others like Rev. Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, the director of IT block, Rev. Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ the Principal and the Dean of Commerce Department. The entire programme was ably lead and compared by Ms. Niveditha Dias, Lecturer of the Department of English.
