Psychology department celebrates Christmas
Konkani sangha holds carol singing competitions
As part of the Christmas celebration, Konkani sangha took the lead by organizing Christmas singing competitions within the college. Mr Alwyn D’sa, lecturer of English Department and Ms Loveena, lecturer of Chemistry department were the judges. Altogether, five groups participated in the competitions.

AL MADHYAM BACK IN ACTION
Al Madhyam Holds its first meeting of the 2nd Term yesterday at 4:15p.m in the Journalism Studio. The enthusiastic Al Madhyians were informed about the events which are going to be taken up for them. They were also given fun activities to do in the holidays.

After that there was a refreshing Ice Breaker session of writing compliments about each other on each other’s back…
This activity was loved by all the students.

ALL FESTS MEET AT THE SAME END
The valedictory function of the two day national level fests conducted by different faculties of St Aloysius Degree College was held together at Altorium, St Aloysius open ground on Friday at 4p.m.
The Chief Guest for the function was Mr. B.R.Bhat, general manager of corporation bank.
The principal, Rev Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ; The Deans of the four faculties, Rector of the college Rev Fr Francis Serrao S.J , the programme convener’s Prof. Denis Fernandes, Prof. Ramesh Kamath, Prof. Narayan Moorthy and Ms. Sandhya Rani and the student co ordinators were present as the dignitaries.
The chief guest in his speech proudly says that Dakshina Kannada District is very famous all over the world as the eminent people in the world had their education done here. He also adds “Tomorrows world is depended on today’s competition”.
The prize winners for the four events are- the overall championship for Art Beat (by faculty of Arts) was St Xavier’s, Goa and runners up was St Agnes degree College, Mangalore;
the overall championship for ACME (by the faculty of commerce) was St. Agnes Degree College, Mangalore and runners up was St Josephs, Bangalore;
the overall championship for the event IMPRINTS (by the faculty of science) was St Agnes Degree College, Mangalore and runners up was S.D.M college, Ujire;
the overall championship for the event SPIN-OUT was St.Agnes Degree College, here and the runners up was bagged by Mountain view college.

IMPRINTS
The day 1 of imprints 2007 was an interesting mix of building talents, exciting events and apprehensive participants. There were ten events in total conducted on the first day. The first one was Impression, an ice breaker session in which 17 colleges participated. The colllegs are Government College Hassan, St Xavier’s Goa, PPC Udupi, Ramakrishna College Mangalore, Shree Bharathi College, Mangalore; PA College, Madhav Pai Memorial college, Manipal; SDM Mangalore, Canara College Mangalore, Alva’s College, Moodbidri; Vivekananda College, Puttur, Vijaya College, mulki; SDM, Ujire; Milagris college, Kallianpur; University College; Vidyaniketan College, Kaup; St. Agnes College, Mangalore. The event was judged by Ms Sandra Farias and prof M.L. Sureshnath. It was an event to showcase the students’ innovative instincts at the same time to innovate themselves without revealing which college they are from.
The second event was Impact, where the colleges had to present technical papers. The colleges that participated are Milagres College, Kallianpur; SDM, Mangalore; Vivekananda College, Puttur; Shree Bharathi College, Mangalore; Canara College and St. Agnes College from Mangalore. it was judged by Dr Hemakini and Mr Pius A.J. Pinto. The participants had to answer every question their presentation and to the judges’ satisfaction. A tyrue event to to test the IQ’s of the participants!!!
The third one was Imperia or favourably known as Turncoat, an event liked by the judges and the students alike. The colleges that participated were St. Agnes, mangalore; Canara College, Mangalore; SDM College, Mangalore; Alvas, Modbidri; Milagres, Kallianpur; PPC, Udupi; SDM, Ujire; Vivekananda,puttur; Vijaya, Mulki; PA College; Shree Bharathi College, Mangalore; Madhav Pai Memorial College, manipal; and St Xavier’s Goa. The participants had a good timeturning coats and speaking for and against whether they liked it or not!!! The judges were Mrs Niveditha Dias and Mr Alwyn D’Sa.
The fourth event was Immaculize, a debugging prelims participated by St. Xavier’s, GAO; PPC, Udupi; Shree Bharathi College, Mangalore; Madhav Pai Memorial College, Manipal; SDM Mangalore; Canara College, Mangalore; Alvas College, Moodbidri; Vivekananda Puttur; university College, Vidyaniketan College Kaup; St. Agnes College, Mangalore; SDM, Ujire; Shree Devi College, Mangalore; PA College. An event which had the participants pecking on their brain and seriously working on the objective type questions.
Impasse, a maths puzzle was the next event. The colleges that participated are Government Science College Hassan; St. Xavier’s GAO, PPC Udupi; Sri Ramakrishna, Mangalore; Shree Bharathi, Mangalore; PA College, Madhav Pai Memorial, Manipal; SDM, Ujire; Milagres Kallianpur; Vidyaniketan Kaup; St. Agnes and University College Mangalore; Vivekananda College Puttur. The event was judged by Ms Rashmi.
A jamming event called Improvise where the participants of different colleges never allowed their other college mates to speak, stopping them at each pause or mistake, a sight to watch. The participants were Government Science College, Hassan; St. Xavier’s Goa; PPC Udupi; Sri Ramakrishna Mangalore; Shree Bharathi College; Madhav Pai Memorial College, Milagres College, University College, St Agnes College, SDM Ujire, SDM Mangalore and Vivekananda College, Puttur. The event was judged by Mr Mahesh Naik.
The next event was a collage making contest called Imbricate, which brought out the creative minds alive. Cheers to creativity. The colleges that participated are Government Science College, St Xavier’s, PPC, Sri Ramakrishna College, Shree Bharathi, PA College, Madhav Pai Memorial College, SDM College, Canara College, Alva’s College, Vivekananda College, Vijaya College, SDM Ujire, Milagres College, University College Mangalore and St Agnes’ College, adjudged by Ms Quidiya Begum.
Event Implement was adjudged by Ms Prafulla and was participated by St. Xavier’s, PPC, Shree Ramakrishna College, Shree Bharathi College, PA College, Madhav Pai Memorial College, SDM Mangalore, Canara College, Alva’s College, SDM Ujire, University College, Vidyaniketan College and St Agnes College. It was an event that saw all the participants getting down to more serious business!!!
Implode, a quiz prelims were participated by all the 18 colleges and an event that saw the participants thinking on tougher questions.
The last event of the evening was Imagine, an event that saw the participants giving more serious thoughts on bringing their vision to reality on a serious not. St Xavier’s College, Shree Bharathi College, SDM College Mangalore, St Agnes College, PPC, Government Science College, SDM College Ujire were adjudged by Dr Malathi shekar and Dr, Lawrence Pinto. It was a grueling session though!!
Day two of Imprints 2007 was a happening and a most anticipated day because at the end of this the results were to be declared. The day started with Imperia or Spell Bee wich was an event to test the vocabulary of the participating colleges, which were St Xavier’s College, Goa; Alva’s College, Moodbidri; Vivekananda College, Puttur; PA College; Madhav Pai Memorial College, Manipal; Vijaya College Mulki; St Agnes College, Mangalore; PPC Udupi and SDM Ujire; adjudged by Precilla D”Silva and Dr Shridhar. It was a grueling session of spelling the word sight appreciated by everybody!!
The second event of the day was a debugging event, Immaculise, which saw the participants pulling their socks upto debug the given questions. The event had the following Colleges Madhava Pai Memorial College Manipal; St. Agnes Mangalore, SDM Mangalore; Alva’s Moodbidri; University College and Canara College Mangalore judged on the basis of the marks scored by each college.
The third event was Immicible or the Switch Case where the colleges were each given a topic used in different contexts and both the contexts were to be explained about. The judges were Mr. Leslie D’Souza and Ms. Sylvia Rego. You really had to have a good IQ to crack this nut!!
The fourth event was Implode, the quiz finals. Here the colleges were put to a grueling session and a doubly set of questions were given to answer.
Impronise, A jam Final was an event eagerly awaited by the participating colleges and the audience alike. An event where you keep tab with what the other participant talks about, where he stops, pause or stammers etc. This event was judged by the jam master Mr. Mahesh Nayak.
The finals of webdesigning, Implement, colleges participated are SDM Ujire, Shree Bharathi College Mangalore; Vidhya Niketana Kaup, Alva’s Moodabidri, P.A. College, Canara College and SDM College Mangalore, activily participated.
It was Judged by Mr. B. Santhosh.
An event which truly means creativity was an event of converting waste into wealth called Impearl. The judges were Dr. Eashwar Bhat and Dr. Nagalashmamma.
A Sight to watch.
The meet favorite and eagerly awaited event was Implia also called the stress interview.
It was an event where the participating college were kput through a session of an interview whose sole purpose was to etos the participate but in the end of all of them sw the seen raise. The colleges who saw through this event were St. Agenes Mangalore, St. X’aviors Goa; Vivekananda Puttur; SDM Ujire, and Madhava Pai Memorial college Manipal adjuged by the stress viewers Mr. Chandra Rao, Mrs Bharathi Shirgase and Mr. Rower Mendonza. An event liked by all.
Imprits 2007 has been a great hit, all because of the active participate of the students of St. Alosyus and participating colleges alike A memorable fact which stated and care to an end much too early.

ART BEAT CONTINUES TO SPREAD COLOURS
The second Day of Art Beat was very exciting.. A lot more activities were conducted such as
LYRICAL DUEL
This event was all about making a musical composition using the ten to fifteen words which were given to the participants earlier. They were given three minutes to present their song which was in their own tune. Eight colleges participated in the event.Sudhir pias, Mrs. Judi Pinto and Rathan Mohanta were the judges for the event.
MOCK PRESS
The Mock Press competition were the participants had to introduce themselves as any famous personality. The had to answer the questions asked by the judges. They were given one minute to introduce themselves and five minutes to answer the questions.Seven colleges participated in this event. The personalitie they took up ranged from Vijay Mallya to Yedoorappa.
The Judges for this event were Mrs. Nivedita Dias, lecturer of English in St. Aloysius College, Ms. Aditi Shastry, lecturer of English in St. Aloysius College and Prof Rajesh Kamath, HOD of English Dept.
Canara PU College
QUIZ FINALS
Four colleges were qualified for the final round of quiz which was named as “TVESHA”.This event had five events altogether.The ounds were named as Jaago India, mixed bag, equations, rapid fire and audio round. Prof Alwyn D’Sa lecturer of English from St. Aloysius College was the Quiz Master.
Roshni Nilaya bagged the first place and Vivekanana College bagged the second.
POETRY WRITING
Eight colleges participated in this event. They were asked to write poetry on the picture that was presented before them. It could be either in English or in kannada.This event demanded higher creativity. Mrs. Nirmala Mulliyil and Viswanatha Badikana were the judges for the event.
Mr. & Mrs. PERSONALITY
This was the competition to find the best of the rest. Eleven colleges participated in this event. Each college had two participants including one boy and a girl. The event altogether had four rounds; First round tested the physical endurance of the participants. Second round was an aptitude test.
STRESS INTERVIEW
This was the final round for the hunt of Mr.&Mrs Personality. Participants were to answer the questions fired by the judgesThe judges tried to ask the questions that really took the participants to the peek of tension.Lwarence Pinto , Nobert Lobo and Rosviera D’Souza were the judges for the event.
CONTEMPORARY DANCE
The event entertained the viewers more than any other events. This event tested the choreographic excellence and the creativity of the participants.Nitesh,Dr. Saraswathi and Mrs.Shanti Lobo ere the judges.
