St. Aloysius Celebrates the 128th Glorious Annual Day

St. Aloysius College Celebrates the 128th College Day on Friday the 29th of February at 5:30 p.m on the St. Aloysius College Grounds.

The Programme began with invoking Gods Blessings through a Melodious Prayer Song Sung by the college Choir followed by Pushpanjali a welcome dance.

Justice N. Santosh Hegde (Karnataka Lokayukta) was the chief Guest, Rector Rev. Fr Francis Serrao SJ, Principal Rev. Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ, Convener Professor S.S. Bosco, Rev. Fr Denzil Lobo SJ & Student Council President Dhiraj Sequeira were other Dignitaries who were present on the dais.

Principal Rev. Fr Swebert D’Silva SJ addressed the gathering. He spoke about the New Courses started in the P.G and also introduced the New Staff members of this year. His Speech was followed by a LCD Audio Video Projection of the Annual Report Containing the various College activities conducted during the academic year 2007- 2008.

The College Choir gloriously sang the College Anthem followed by the introduction of the Chief Guest by Campus Minister Rev. Fr Francis Almeida SJ.

While addressing the gathering the Chief Guest advised the students to keep their desires within their limit and also said that our education only makes man to focus on becoming a successful person but today all we need is humanity and he continued by saying that students after their studies should work for the betterment of the country and not only for money.

Rector Rev. Fr Francis Serrao SJ thanked the students for all their efforts in bringing up the fame of the college and Fr Principal for his hardwork and finally for the parents whom he called as the strong foundation of the college. This was followed by the prize distribution ceremony.

The students put up a wonderful show of their talents. The evening followed with the cultural programmes and finally concluded with the national anthem.

FAREWELL TO FINAL YEARS

The Department of Psychology held a Send off programme for the 3rd year students on 28th Feb 2008.The programme began with a welcome song and refreshments .The choir group was excellent and thrilled the audeince. A colourful entertainment programme was put up by the 2nd and 1st years. Elizabeth of second year was the MC. Thiranjala of 2nd year presented a video on the memories of Final years.
Ms. Shalini and Ms. Wilma of Department of Psychology were present . The programme ended with the sharing of momentos with wonderful farewell messages.

MOVIE SCREENING

Humanities Association screened a movie in the teletorium at 3.15 on 27th .Prof
Vishanz of Arts faculty and the members were present.
The name of the movie is CHILDREN OF HEAVEN, a Iranian movie.
After the review the students were asked the review on the movie.

Sahodhya – Holds a Talk

Sahodhya held a talk by Rev. Fr Francis Serrao at 4.15 p.m in the teletorium. The programme began with a prayer Song. Ms. Smitha Jesudasan Faculty of Commere, President of Sahodhya, Saranya Secretary of Sahodhya were present at the programme. Fr Rector stressed more importance on the motive of college i.e. to produce men and women for others in his talk

Kannada Sangha

Kannada Sangha of St. Aloysius College held Sahithyadha Utta on 26th at 12 p.m in the teletorium. The Videograph of geethostava was screened. Dr. Vishwanath Badikanna lecturer of Kannada Department and the members of Kannada Sangha were present.

SAMPRATHI

Samprathi an annual seminar organized by St. Aloysius Institute of social work was held on 26th of Feb at IT Hall. Miss Hilda D’souza, HOD of MSW spoke on civil society: Conscience keeper of the nation. The Inauguration was held at 9.30 am .Chief guest word was given by Prof. Ravi Varma Kumar, senior council, High Court, Karnataka.

Key note address on civil society, a custodian of democracy was given by Dr. Valerian Rodrigues, Professor, New Delhi.

A Challenge to civil society of India was presented by Dr. Rajarani Talapaddy, Professor Mangalore University. The Programme was wrapped up by the cultural event.

BLOOD DONATION CAMP

Blood donation camp was held on 26th Feb 2008, organized by National Service Scheme (N. S. S) of St. Aloysius College Mangalore.

The inauguration was held at 9.30 am at college auditorium. The programme began with a prayer song, by students of St. Aloysius College Mangalore.

Chief Guest word was given by Mr. Sunil. Mr. Mahesh Chowta launched the software.

Finally the inaugural function was concluded with vote of thanks given by Ms. Divya of 2nd B.Sc.

MUSICAL EVENING

         The St.Aloysius Music Association organized one of the biggest events for the year. Musical evening was held on the February 22 2008 in the college campus.

There was equal participation in both the western and eastern singing. The whole program was made even more exiting and interesting with the dance performances by students of different classes. An ex student of St. Aloysius College also gave a performance which thrilled the audience.

 Mr. Ratan T Mohunta, the president of the music association wriggled the audience with a song from the movie ‘Fanaa’ and proved that the lecturers of St Aloysius are no less when it comes to talent.

The whole event was concluded with a mass dance popularly known as ‘Baila’ The day was one that’ll remain in the hearts and minds of the aloysians for a long time    .

SAHODAYA CONDUCTS INTERACTIVE SKILL DISPLAY

The ‘Sahodaya’ association held an interactive skill display which had an aim to check the communicative skills within the group and the attitude towards various social groups. Four teams participated. It created awareness among the viewers about the various social evils like child labor, exploitation and the many.

AICUF SCREENS MOVIE ON ROME

The AICUF Association screened a movie on the February 18, 2008 ‘Rome,The Vatican ad The Catacombs’ was a gave a picturesque and fascinating account of ancient and modern Rome. The screening of the movie was followed by the students writing a short summary of what they interpreted of the movie.
