Fr Richie’s Movie to be Released on 29 March

25 Mar. It’s big news: Never before.

Fr Richie’s film (beating the record of Ashutosh Gowarikar-Amir Khan) will be released on 29th March at 5.00 pm at SAC IT Block auditorium.

The movie is the fruit of his research work conducted for the Govt of Karnataka through the Karnataka Konkani Sahitya  Academy on the occasion of Suvarna Karnataka.

Fr Richie’s dear students have slogged for this movie to become a dream. It’s been absolutely challenging – in every way. But who can beat their spirit – Abrar Khan, Sandhya D’Souza, Anthony Lobo? And above all -just can’t miss him- Arron Menezes!? It’s been phenomenal.

Along with these students, there have been many more students – Suman Priya Mendonca (Fr Richie’s dear student & colleague of fond memories), Nishanth, Anjana, Melwyn Pinto SJ, Anil D’Souza, Harsha Raj, etc.

There are hundreds of people who have worked tirelessly for this to be a reality.

Reality, still in the pipeline.

I Yrs’ AIR Programme; PG Courses

25 Mar. The first year students of Journalism (SAC) recorded a radio programme this morning. It will be broadcast on 29th evening on Yuvavani. They seem to have done a good job.

Jerin Chandan and his dedicated little team of journalism boys and girls, did not have much time. But they worked it; sweated it out. Managed to do a great job within a week! I love this spirit, boys and girls! You did a great job. Hope for much greater things from you and from the Dept.

I must thank Sr Dr Celine Vas for being with them – accompanying them to AIR to record and guiding them.

Sowparnika did a good job too by guiding the students through the practices, giving suggestions and company in the last few days. Personally, I could not be helping these zealous youngsters, except arranging with AIR and throwing a challenge at these students, who promptly picket it up.

Now, be tuned in to AIR on 29 Mar. It’s English Yuvavani. Mangalore Station.

In the meantime, we will start PG course in Mass Communications at SAC in June 2008. The course is entitled MS in Communications. For more details visit www.richardrego.wordpress.com (About Dept & PG).

Good Friday

21 Mar. Good Friday is God’s Friday – the day Jesus was crucified. Christians all over the world keep the day with much devotion and solemnity.

We usually don’t wish on this day (many wish ‘happy good friday!’; wishes wait till Easter Sunday – this year it is on 23 March – Happy Easter).

Today there is no Holy Mass – the only day in the Liturgical Calendar of the Church when there is no Holy Mass! In stead, we have commemoration of the Passion and Death  of Jesus. At SAC, the Service begins at 6.00 pm.

ON Holy Saturday, there is a prayer service at 7.30 a.m.

The evening service of the celebration of the Resurrection of the Lord is at 7.30 p.m.

Palm Sunday

16 Mar. It is the Palm Sunday or also known as Passion Sunday. The day when Jesus entered Jerusalem triumphantly, and people acknowledged Him as the Messiah. After four days, the very same people would betray Him. That is Good Friday.

The main Mass was at 8.00 am in the College Chapel. Blessing of Palms in the SAC Residence portico preceded the Procession into the Chapel. Yours Truly was the Main Celebrant, flanked by Fr Francis Serrao (Rector), Administrator (Fr Peter Pinto), Fr Francis D’Almeida (Chapel In-Charge & College Campus Minister), Fr Melwyn Pinto (SAHS Principal), Fr Vincent Pinto (SAEC Principal) and others.

The Holy Mass followed the Procession and reading of the Passion Narrative. The Main Celebrant high lighted the Mission aspect of Jesus’ life and death as its consequence, while exhorting people to be faithful to their mission in finding their own Jerusalem and enduring to the point of death.
