3 May. Even as Karnataka PUC results started pouring in, students with their parents started thronging St Aloysius College Mangalore for admissions to Under Graduate or Degree courses. Courses on offer are B.A, B.Sc., BSW, BBM, BCom, BCA. One could see long queues along the corridors and in the portico, in spite of 3 people doing the registration of applications.
Those who have registered their applications, please see the notice board from Monday (5th May) onwards for the status of their application. You will be called for counselling on one of these days. Since there are sufficient seats available for all courses, there is no need to panic.
Those who have not got their 12th standard results, please get your pre-board marks and submit your applications to the office.
Admissions to I year PUC at St Aloysius College at Light House Hill (the 128 year old college) will open soon after the SSLC results are announced. Admissions are done at the PUCollege – down / opposite Bishop’s house (near boys’ hostel), and not at the Degree College up!
Please note: there are no agents or brokers who do admissions for you any course at St Aloysius. Admissions are done directly by the Principal in the office. You will find some agents/ brokers asking you money as “donation” for ‘such and such person’ or for principal to get a seat for you! Please don’t believe! Anything about admissions to any of the St Aloysius units (college, PUC, High School, Primary, hostels etc) are done ONLY BY THE PRINCIPALS in their respective offices!
In the meantime, those who want to do their post graduate courses, could submit their applications to the office. Masters Courses on offer are –

Among these MCA, MBA, MSc Bioinformatics, MSc in Software Technology have their own Entrance tests sometime in early June. YOu need to contact Fr Denzil Lobo or visit www.staloysius.ac.in .
Among others, M.Sc in Biochemistry, M.Sc. in Biotechnology, M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry and M.S.W will have entrance tests on 7, 9, 10 th of June.
Other courses will have direct admissions.

It is not one subject B.Sc. It is B.A. with three majors like Psychology with Journalism and some other combination. There are 2-3 different combinations of subjects.

If you are asking if you can switch over to BCA, theoretically it is possible. But you will have to personally approach swebert, who deals with admissions and money.

In any case, all the admissions have begun. You could either visit the college & collect an application or visit the college website & download & follow the instructions therein.

Interview is nothing special – just to see and pay the fees.
You could contact the office for the exact dates of classes and details.

B.Com or any UG program admissions begin SOON after the PUC results. Immediately next day the college starts accepting admissions.
Please keep a tab on PUC results in Karnataka. You will be fine with that. If results get delayed, beyond state PUC results, you need still to hurry up with applications.

Renie, your marks are good enough, if you can keep it up and improve.
Usually, the applications are uploaded on the website – http://www.staloysius.edu.in. But last year they were not, for some reasons. They should be available sometime in April.
Hostel applications will be usually available sometime in Feb-March. You must keep a tab. For hostel has rather small capacity compared to the College seats, and gets filled in NO TIME. You must contact the hostel office.

Fees is not much: should be around 20-30k; plus there could be a few extra thousand (not too many) for NRI/ foreign studies. That is for the First year; later no ‘special fees’; even the general fees paid will be reduced every year (ii & iii bbm).

The actual ‘high’ or ‘low’ of results can be gauged only after the Karnataka Higher Secondary School Board declares its results, in the first week of May.

Informally, you can talk to the principal now. But formally, admissions begin only after the Karnataka SSLC (10th std) results are declared. This year, due to Census, the 10th Std results may be delayed – upto the third week of May. Immediately after that admissions are begun!
Tentative dates for the results declaration is around 20 May 2010. But keep checking Karnataka newspapers.

thank you for the comment and suggestions.
One thing: Kuvempu and Shivaji are state funded universities, not private colleges which have to pay their staff and fund their own infrastructure. Government pays them. But in private colleges like ours, the management have to cough up every paisa! Hence students have to subsidise their learning.
Regarding syllabus, once you come here, I would like to speak to you. And I will take up you suggestion to modify it if it’s a real concern.
Thirdly, other universities may charge you less fees; they can offer you good syllabus; but can they guarantee you good teaching and commitment that St Aloysius offeres? Can they offer you the brand value St Aloysius offers?
I too studied in Bangalore University. We had excellent syllabus & cheap education (it was real CHEAP, by all standards!) – you won’t believe it. But It was ABSOLUTE waste of time. We had some of the most notorious criminals to be addressed ‘teachers’. Activities in the Dept started only after 4.30 pm, when students went home aft er chatting, playing, having coffee, and getting disappointed with the Dept! Three of my lecturers faced (and even now) criminal cases; one had High Court admonishing “you are unfit to be called a teacher”, and one jailed twice and suspended twice! Naturally, they are universities, they offer you excellent syllabus and CHEAP education….
The case is no different in most universities – I go round universities, have friend lecturers in them, and not too ignorant about these things…
Want it? You know why some of the private institutions charge you more fees? (I don’t mean every institution, though). But St Aloysius stands by its commitment.
Anyway, thank you very much for the suggestions. I appreciate them very much, and wherever possible, will try my best to impove things by doing what is in my limits.

i am xavier desouza from mangalore sir i found the syallbus for m.sc analytical chemistry not that impressive unlike our neighbouring kuvempu universities syallbus……………. and the currrent fee structure is very high compared to other universities providing the same courses……
