First Day First Take – College Reopens
23 June. And all of a sudden the Campus started roaring – the St Aloysius College Camups was filled wiht students.
The first hour – as usual- was spent in addressing the II & III years – with thier classs elections. And then the regular classes – lecturers engaging every class.
In the afternoon, the Rector and Principal met all the teaching and non-teaching staff – to put forth their vision, brief them about the goings-on in the campus, voice their concerns, solicit their support and cooperation.
And the staff joined in a good meal – to bring to end a long session with the Principal and Rector.
Feast of St Aloysius – Benefactors’ Day
22 June. Feast time is also a time to remember all our benefactors – big and small. Those who have done and are doing much for this our Institution.
The celebration started with a Holy Mass celebrated with Fr Francis Serrao SJ (Rector) and all the priests of the St Aloysius Jesuit Community. The chapel was nearly full with our benefactors, well wishers coming in large numbers to join us in thanking the Lord our God.
After the Holy Mass, we had short and sweet programme during which Fr Rector gave a brief report of the SAC institutions. Then followed a beautiful ceremony to honour advocate Clarency Pais on being conferred “Chevalier of Gregory the Great”. Fr Rector honoured him with a shawl, Mysore Peta, garland and flower.
The benefactors present joined the Jesuit community in a meal.
Post Graduate Courses Formally Approved
18 June. If you had any slghtest doubt about the new post graduate courses starting at St Aloysius College this year, were dispelled when the Academic Council of the Mangalore University formally approved them yesterday.
In fact the courses were already approved by the St Aloysius College (Autonomous) Governing Council. Then the Government of Karnataka approved them in writing (after which the university is only a formality – not of much consequence, though!). But the formalities had to be followed. And they are also over.
Hearty Congratulations to the Principal and all the Heads of the Departments who have worked very hard to make these courses a reality.
The new courses are M.S. Communication (Mass Communication), M.Com in Applied Finance and Accounting, M.Sc in Biochemistry, Applied Economics, and M.A. English.
Admissions are going on to these courses. M.S. Communication accepts students from any undergraduate course (B.A., B.Com, B.S.W., BBM, B.Sc., etc… any approved 3-year degree). You need a 45% marks for eligibility (for SC/STs 40% as required by the University).
For those who want to do this course, you have specialisations in the III & IV semesters – you can choose any one of the three specialisations offered: Broadcast Media (TV, Radio & Films), Corporate Communication, and Print and Web Journalism. Be ready for a whale of a time!
Eligibility criterion for English also is similar – any undergraduate course with 45% or 40% marks.
Other subjects require that the students should have studied subjects proper to their post graduate subject (B.Sc. or B.Com for M.Com, and B.Sc for M.Sc. courses. )

The management, Principal, and the staff are eagerly awaiting you. Hearty welcome to you all boys and girls!
New & Junior Staff SAC – at Training
Junior staff with new recruits have been at SAC learning the tricks of the trade – how to be GOOD teachers. It’s a week since they have been here. Listening to various seniors from the College & other units of our Institution.
In the snap you see the Principal addressing the new staff, introducing them to the Jesuit education and more specially to Aloysius education.
Among the many resource persons were Prof. Ramesh Kamat, Rev Dr Richard Rego, Mr Lurdusamy, Dr Pais, Prof. Narahari, Ms Judith Pinto and others were there.
Fr Rector gave a detailed session on Jesuit education on Monday (16th) after which Fr Melwin Pinto (High School Head Master) trained on Soft Skills. Principal of SAC BEd took one full day’s sesssion on Micro teaching.
Tomorrow Prof. Rolphie Mascarenhas will give a day-long sesson on Ignatian Pedagogy Paradigm.
Entrance exams at St Aloysius College
10 June. The much awaited entrance exams to some Post Graduate courses are over. Today were the two last exams – MSc Biochemistry and MSW. The college campus saw a huge turn out of students seeking to enter the Portals of St Aloysius College.
If there are many who have missed any one of these entrance tests (Biotechnology, Analytical Chemistry, Biochemistry, and MSW), we could consider a second test for such candidates. But you must get in touch with the Principal or Ms Smitha Hegde, or Ms Asha Abraham, or Dr Richard Gonsalves or Dr Richard Rego SJ (Yours Truly).
Now admissions to other PG courses are going on – courses like M. S. Communication (PG in Mass Media), M.Com in Accounting and Finanace, M.A. in Applied Economics, M.Sc in Counselling and Holistic Psychology, and M.A. in English.
If you are one of those who have delayed, you need to hurry up…
For M.S. Communication, could contact me – Fr Dr Richard Rego or the office. We are at your service, always.
