Condolence Meeting

     Mr. Sheldon Pinto

Sept 30: The College moans the sudden demise of Sheldon Pinto, a second year B. com student who passed away on 29 September 2008-09-30. The condolence meeting was held today at 11.45 am. The meeting was presided by Rev. Fr. Francis Alameda Sj, the campus Minister. Ms. Keerthi Pinto of second B.Com was the M.C. The condolence meeting began with a prayer hymn, seeking the blessings of the Almighty. Mr. Manoj Lewis, Lecturer of the Commerce Department while giving a condolence message on behalf of the staff members of Commerce Department said: “Life is uncertain, death is certain.”  He praised the spirit of service of Sheldon. He narrated few incidences to support the claim. He said that Sheldon was a fun loving person who could make friends easily. He was also a man who was always disposed in the service of others. Rev Fr Swibert D’Silva Sj read out the condolence message on behalf of the management. He said that Sheldon has set a great example to everyone how to be service minded.

Academic Council Meeting

 

Sept 27: The meeting Academic council of St Aloysius College was held in the teletorium at 10:30 am on September 28, 200827. The principal Rev. Fr. Swebert D’silva welcomed the gathering. The representatives from the Mangalore University including the Vice chancellor of the university were present. The secretary of the academic council meeting Fr. Francis Almedia Sj, presented the agenda of the meeting and read out the minutes. He explained the various the courses available in the college and the regulations. He also explained the Masters courses started the year (2008-09). He also shed some light on the regulations of PGDCA and PGBDM.

     In the course of the meeting, many topics came up for discussion. Some of the  topics that came up for discussion included the new courses that were begun at post graduate level and those that are yet to begin in the coming year. They also discussed whether to have only one exam for the under graduate students. These questions that were posed were answered intelligently by the dignitaries on the dais especially the Evaluation Registrar Prof. A M Nahari.

         After the long hectic meeting that lasted for almost four hours ended, the vice chancellor of the university congratulated the management and staff for the successful completion of one year of autonomy of the college.  The principal thanked all the staff members for their cooperation. He rendered his special thanks to Prof. Hahari and appreciated him for his contribution towards this institution.

Dhwani Released

Sept 26: Dhwani, the practical journal of the III B.A Journalism students was released on 26 September  by Rev. Fr Sweibert D’Silva SJ, the Principal of the College. The Head of the Department of Journalism, Rev Dr Richard Rego SJ was all smiles as he said “ We have some good news; finally the fruit of our labour is ready for harvest.” He gave credit of this fruit to the students who had worked hard to bring out this first issue of Dhwani for this academic year.

The Chief Guest of the program, Fr Sweibert D’Silva congratulated the students for their dedication and their efforts to make this issue possible. He emphasized on the fact that to achieve something in life one has to work hard. He said that anybody can do the reporting job, but a good journalist is the one who can analyse and present things in creative ways. He challenged the students to be more committed in their work and prove to others that they are “the best.”

On this occasion were present the staff of the Department: Dr. Sr Celine Vas , Ms Manorama, Mr. Vivek, along with final year  and first years students of the Journalism.

Rangoli Competition

20 Sept: The Biotechnology Association organized a Rangoli Competition for the M.Sc students in the College Auditorium on 20 September, 2008. The students were free to choose themes of their choice, which were related to Biotechnology. The coordinator in charge was Dr. Monica Sadanandan and the student coordinator was Ms. Sarah. The first place was bagged by Rakhi Bhagat and group of third semester students .The second place went to Ashwin and group of first semester students. The third place was won by Sarah and group of third semesters students.

19 Sept: The IT Club organised a Quiz Competition today as a part of their association activities. The competition was held in the Teletorium of the Administrative Block on. The quiz competition related to their subject.

ARTS FACULTY MEETING

19 Sept: The Arts Faculty meeting was held on 19 September, 2008 in the Conference Room of the Administrative Block. The meeting was presided over by Rev.Fr.Swebert D’Silva, the Principal of the college. The agendas for the meeting was the semester system examinations, the fixture of a date for Art Beat ’08 and disciplinary measures. The meeting was attended by all the lecturers of the Arts faculty.

MSW SEMINAR

18 Sept: A lecture on “Dementias” was held in the college Auditorium on 18 September, 2008. The lecture was hosted by the Medical and Psychiatric Forum. The guest lecturer for the day was Dr. Satheesh Rao, the Head of Department of Psychiatry at KSHEMA Medical College. The programme was coordinated by Mrs. Laveena Crasta. The doctor explained about the causes of dementias and how it affects the patient as well as family and caretakers.

COUNCIL MEETING

18 Sept: The Studen Council meeting was held on 18 September, 2008 in the Teletorium of the Administrative Block. The agenda was the difficulties of practical examination in a semester system, completion of the syllabus for the coming internals and fixing the dates for musical evening and Degree day. The l meeting was led by Dr. Richard Gonsalves of the Department of Chemistry . The meeting went on smoothly with the students openly giving out suggestions

St Aloysius college’s chapel under threat

17 Sept: The world famous chapel of St Aloysius College was under threat when the miscreant who had triggered the communal violence around the city of Mangalore by destroying the Christian churches approached the chapel with a plan to attack it . This happened on Sunday (14 September) morning after they had damaged the Adoration Chapel at Milagrees. However, they could not harm the chapel as the mass was going on that day. They had come with Tata Sumo and kinetic. The constable who was present at the spot noticed that the Tata Sumo had no number plate. He followed the vehicle when they left and informed the police. The police responded well and chased the miscreant

Condolence Meet

17 Sept: A condolence meeting was held to mourn the death of Nelson Denzil Pais, a II year BBM student of St Aloysius College on the 17 September, 2008 in front of the administrative block. The meeting was participated by the management staff and the students of the college. Father Swebert D’Silva the principal gave the condolence resolution. Dr.Rowena Wright shared a few good memories of her student ( Nelson). Ms. Steffi Maria, a friend of Nelson shared the happy moments with him. The college choir offered a hymn and prayer service to render eternal rest to his soul.
