Dr. Harish Joshy, HOD of Zoology at St Aloysius College was the Chief Guest for the day at Sadhana Summer Camp-09 in Kulshekar. The ten day camp is being organised by Mr. Prakash Shenoy and his wife, Ms. Vasudha Shenoy at their residence ‘Raga Taranga’ from 13 April to 22 April 2009.
Mr. Harish Joshy spoke about Vermitechnology and its impotance in the agricultural field. He also demonstrated the preparation of vermicompost to the participants.

Students from Kudupu, Shaktinagar, Kulshekar etc actively participated in the camp and raised various questions.

“India has enough historical monuments but they are not well maintained. People are not aware about our heritage”, said Prof. Surrender Rao former Chairman Department of V history, Mangalore University.
He was speaking at the Heritage March organized by Centre for Integrated Learning (C.I.L.) in collaboration with Lions Club Mangalore, Corporation Bank and Dix Group of Companies on 18th April 2009 from St. Aloysius College to old Port Mangalore. The purpose of the march was to make public to aware of the monuments and the historical places.
C.I.L. Co-coordinator Mr. Nanda Kumar said that C.I.L. is formed not for any profitable reasons but it deserves to make aware the public about our heritage and culture. This organization formed for the students. Different college and school students has joined this organization and they are working together in the organization.
Mr. Susham welcomed, Miss. Ruth D’silva gave vote of thanks and Mr. Raghutej anchored the programme.

The Department of Biotechnology in collaboration with Biotechnology Association organized a talk on ‘How to prepare for an interview’.

Mr. Norbert Lobo, lecturer of department Economics of St Aloysius College was the chief speaker for the occasion. Explaining to the students with the help of PowerPoint presentation, he said “Just because you studied, you don’t get a job; but to get a job you must study”. Nothing is sold for what it is, but for what it does, he added.

Reading gives the knowledge also imparts the wisdom
“Library is a hidden treasure of knowledge and wisdom” says George A Rodrigues, the librarian of St. Aloysius College Central library. The Central library also known as the U.G (under graduate) library is yet another glorious facet of St. Aloysius college.

Beside the wide range of books, journals, periodicals, newspapers, magazines the library also has a good collection of CD’s and some rare old books. One of them being the Kristapuran written by a Jesuit saint Thomas Stephen, in the 16th century.

Books in order
This library with more than 72,000 books not only caters to the students of St Aloysius College but also others, especially those doing their research. To keep up with to the modern pace the library also provides internet and online catalog facility.

Books preserved and mentained in racks
According to Mr. George, the modern gadgets and technology have changed the reading habits of the youngsters. Reading not only gives knowledge but also imparts wisdom, hence the youngsters should take the maximum benefit of the facilities provided to them, he added
