07 June. Admissions for the various post graduate courses are going on. The Entrance test to M.Sc. Biotechnology is already over. Biochemistry, Analytical Chemistry (8 June) and M.S.W (9 June) will be held in the next week. But those who are still busy with the U.G. exams and could not attend the first set of exams this time, there will be another entrance test sometime in mid-June. Please keep in touch with the College office to know the date and time. 

For other courses like M.C.M.S. (Mass Communication), English, Economics, and M.Com, admission will be direct. Students can avail application till the end of June.

B.A. with Journalism major one batch ((the regular batch with various combinations) is full, whereas jounalism (mass communication) with Computer Animation, a few seats are available.

The B.A. students of Journalism have two new lecturers – with excellent records in academic and professional fields.

27 Mar 09. Dept of Mass Communication offers two courses in Media: Journalism (Mass Communication as one of the optionals along with any two other subjects) with B.A. This is a much-in demand subject for the students across most disciplines. The admissions for the year 2009-10 will be open in April-May, after the PUC (12th standard or HSC) results are declared in Karnataka.

Masters in Mass Communication (M.S. Communication, now re-christened M.C.M.S. or Master of Communication and Media Studies) is a new course started in 2008 June, now in the second year. The course, though relatively new, is in much demand. It offers three specialisations to students in their 3rd and 4th semesters, whereas in the first year (1 & 2 semesters) it is general studies for all the students of Mass Comm.

1) Broadcast Media, 2) Corporate Communication, 3) Print and New Media Journalism - are the three specialisations.

The Department -headed by Rev Dr Richard Rego SJ- offers internships to all its students, besides course-end placements. The course is replete with practicals – print, TV bulletins, Radio capsules, web reports/ writings, media-related photography, event managements, participation in public life events – both media related and non-media related public issues….

11 June. Fr Dr Richard Rego SJ is teaching at St Aloysius College, Dept of Mass Communication & Journalism. He has been teaching Mass Media there since 2001 January. Currently, he heads the Department, with sr Dr Celine Vas BS, Ms Manorama, and Mr Vivek Kannadi.

Fr Richie is a research scholar with a UGC research fellowship (Major). This is the first Major Reseach project from the UGC, in the history of an undergraduate college in the jurisdiction of Mangalore University.

This page is updated regularly by me, with personal experiences and media thoughts & updates (wherever they are available). This is a communication channel for me with my students -both past and present- and anybody interested at St Aloysius College, our Department of Mass Communication, or B.A. Journalism or specially M.S. Communication (Masters in Mass Communication), which we are starting this year – July 2008.

At present, he is busy with the Community Radio of St Aloysius College, which is in its final stage of setting up.

Sr Dr Celine Vas, B.S. is specialised in print mendia and development of media. She has an MCJ from Mangalore university and a PhD too. She is a part of the M.S. Communication faculty. Versatile writer, good teacher, good PRO and a singer, too, she loves her students.

Ms Manorama, an MCJ from Mangalore University has joined the Dept of Mass Communication in 2008. Teaches at under graduate level Journalism

Mr Vivek Kannadi is a rank holder from Mysore University in M.Sc. Electronic Media. He has just joined the staff of Journalism and M.S. Communication. His specialisation is visual media, computer based media and specially films. He hails from a film-working-film-loving family of Kerala. Mr VIvek has already assisted Mr Jayaraj in a major movie.
