Ordaining a Young Jesuit

28 Dec. It is a great day for Fr Olvin Viegas SJ, who is ordained this morning in Badyar, near Guruvaynkere (roughly 75 km from Mangalore).

Fr Olvin belongs to Karnataka Jesuit province. He has opted to work in Russia! He joined Russian band some six years ago; learnt the language and ways of life there. He completed his Theological studies in Gregorian University in Rome, and now is ordained.

We congratulate Fr Olvin on this important occasion of his life. The Society of Jesus in Karnataka, Russia and the world over rejoices with him. Good wishes to him for a fruitful work as a Jesuit priest.

After the Storm Comes a Calm…

26 Dec. The storm of activities in the context of Christmas have come to a temporary end; there rules a calm in the Campus. Just a mini break.

Christmas was a great time to all of us. We enjoyed with our friends, Jesuits, well wishers, and in the evenings, with our families.

In the Dept of Journalism, you have got students whose ‘never-say-die’ spirit is seen in their dedicated work at Dhwani, their practice journal. Vini, Anisha, Nishanth, and Arron are at computers to make their voices heard.

I am preparing for an ordination on 30 Dec in Taccode! Then there is an interview to appear for, on 27 December. I have applied for project by the Government of Karnataka through the Sahitya Academy. Hope things go on well. In the meantime, I have applied for another DVD project from a Bangalore agency.

24 Dec. It is  Christmas season, once again! Time  to rejoice, for there is something to look forward to! It is time of hope, time of love, time of caring and time of peace. May this Christmas be unique!

Here is a brief account of sharing the Christmas joy and peace with some of our humanity:  stp81230.JPGstp81274.JPGstp81290.JPGstp81229.JPG

Young Jesuits of Asha Kiran share the Christmas Joy with Cheshire Home people: Kanakanady Mangalore.

There are 35 inmates from different religions and backgrounds with varied types of sickness and handicappedness. It was time of Joy and happiness for the inmates as well as for us Asha Kiran Jesuits, singing carols, playing games and interacting with one another. Presence of Santa Sonesh from Santal Paragana region added beauty for the xmas celebration.

Art Beat Concludes – Students Make Merry at Art Beat Baila

9 Dec. It was a high voltage day at Art Beat, St Aloysius College. After the various cultural events, and everyone guessing the possible winners, the stage was perfectly set for a mega-finish.

St Aloysius College students were too full of spirit, with a well prepared cultural programme and music. Then came the valedictory.

Prof. Rolphie Mascarenhas, former Dean of Arts Faculty, St Aloysius College, was the Chief Guest.

After Mr Mohanta (Staff Coordinator) had welcomed, and the incumbent Dean addressed the gathering, the participating college students expressed their satisfaction of a fest well-conducted. So did the Principal, Fr Eugene Lobo.

Roshni Nilaya emerged champions at Art Beat 2006. Vivekananda College Puttur bagged the Runners Up. After the Art Beat Anthem was sung, it was “Baila-Free-For-All”.

Shilpa PC (Final Year Journalism) compered the Valedictory, while Fahim (student coordinator) gratefully remembered those students and staff who sweated it out for over a month to make these two days possible.

Probably, boys and girls dancing to some of the popular tunes after some of the well conducted activities, has marked a dimension of the Aloysian Spirit. And that was at its best: over 200 boys and girls dancing in excitement, yet in an extremely disciplined manner! Well, Aloysians danced their hearts out! That was the final word.

Back to Alma Mater

4 Dec. There was much life in the College, as the lifeblood of SAC – undergraduate students- are back to the Campus. Most of them. Eager to meet one another; some to sit at their favourite kattes, some to heat the IT block parapets, some to accompany the SAC Portico, and other to pay a visit to their class rooms….

I felt nice, being back to the staff room and class room, AS A TEACHER.

We celebrated the 15 ranks of ours this year, with a holiday to our students, while we -the staff- got business-like with impending Autonomy. Next year. Experienced the humdrum of students…

Sports Day at Middle SAC School

15 Nov. Active season is back again. In fact, a hectic season is ahead of us. St Aloysius College Middle School had its Annual Athletic Day today.

Mr Dr John Pinto, Physical Education Director, was the Chief Guest, whereas Rev. Fr Francis Serrao presided over at the inaugural ceremony at the College Centenary Grounds.

Closing Function was a treat to watch what with little kids carrying the school flags, singing school and national anthem in full gusto. Sri Ravi Shetty, NIS Football Coach was the Chief Guest, whereas Rector Fr Francis Serrao presided.

What can you say about sport and children! The only thing is: experience it yourself! It was life and nothing but life at the Centennary grounds! A full day of life in its innocence and at its peak..
