FINE ARTS DRAWING COMPETITION

27 Aug. Fine arts association conducted a drawing competition on 27 Aug 2008. there was around 30 students participating in the competition .

The theme for the

Competition was nature. The competition started at 4.30pm . it was held in room number 309 of the administrative block

POEM RECITATION COMPETITION

26 Aug. Hopkins literary association conducted a poetry recitation competition on 26th August 2008.

The president of the association Mrs. Sylvia Rego was the judge. Eight students took part in the competition. 

The participants were given the poem “The Second Coming” by W.B.Yeats for recitation.

Inter Class Basketball Matches

25 Aug. There was an inter class basketball match held on Monday.The first match was held between B.A-II and  B.Com. -III.

 

 

 

The second match was held between B.Com -I and B.B.M .

 

These matches also serve as selection of the college team for the inter college matches. 

AICUF Conducts One day seminar

23 Aug. A one day seminar on “AICUF and its thrust areas ” was  organised by the Mangalore Region AICUF and Women Commission, at Xavier Auditorium. The seminar was inaugurated by Ms. Jacintha from Roshini Nilaya.

 

Fr. Francis Serrao, Rector of St Aloysius College, talked about dalits on this occasion.

 

Fr.Swebert D’Silva, principal of the college and Fr.Almeda, the campus minister, were the other dignitaries. Prayer and prayer songs were included in the seminar.

NSS-Tree Plantation programme

23 Aug. NSS in coordination with ‘Citizen Forum’, ‘City Corporation of Mangalore’ and ‘Lions Club’.NSS students cleaned the College campus and dug pits for the plantation of plants. Later they went to the Forest office at Hampankatta.

They came in procession to the college. The slogan was “Keep Kudla Green”. The pragramme was to give awareness about tree plantation. The rally was to give awareness against deforestation and to make Mangalore green and fresh

Sri Ravi Raj from forest department gave the welcome speech. Fr.Leo D’Souza, inaugurated the programme by planting the first tree. Mr.Vijaya Kumar, Fr.Swebert D’Silva  and others were the other dignitaries to plant trees. Mr. Chandrashekar proposed the vote of thanks.

Symposium on INDO-US NUCLEAR AGREEMENT

 Aug 21: The Energy Support Initiatives of Dakshina Kannada, Mangalore conducted a seminar on INDO-US NUCLEAR AGREEMENT at the IT auditorium.Sri.M.Veerappa Moili, Chairman of administrative reform and the former Chief Minister of Karnataka inaugurated the function.

          He said we have to destroy something to create anything new. He also added that  nuclear energy is clean and pollution less. Thus he explained the importance of nuclear deal.

  

 

Seminar on RIGHT TO INFORMATION ACT,

Aug 21:A discussion on the Right to Information Act was conducted in association with MSWand MNPO at the college Teletorium. Rev.Fr.Swebert D’Silva, the principal of the college gave the welcome speech.Prof. K.K.Mishra the State Chief Commissioner of Information was the chief guest.

 and the chief  resrouce person of the function.He explained the Act in detail.He said that this Act describes “what information cannot be provided and all the remaining information that has to be provided”. He also added that according to the Act, if we want any information from a public authority and didn’t get it even after making an application we can give first appeal to the public information officer. Otherwise we can directly file a complaint against the authority.

After the speech there was a question and answer session in which Prof.K.KMishra answered the questions raised by the audience.

 

  

Hindi Sangha, poetry writing competition

Aug 21: Hindi Sangha conducted a poetry writing competition in the Xavier auditorium. There were 3 topics namely Mother, Nature and ‘Hamara desh’.Contestants were asked to pick one of the topics and write a poem on it.

 

 

 

Management Association Quiz

August 18:  Management association conducted the final round of quiz programme on business related topics. It was held in the college auditorium at 4:15 pm. Six groups participated and there were five rounds. The quiz was lead by Alen Ridhan of III BBM.The prize winners were Norwin Rego and Rohan of III BBM.

St Aloysius Celebrates Independence Day

Aug 15: Independence Day was celebrated at the St Aloysius College on Friday with fervor enthusiasm.

Addressing the audience, Dr Richard Pais of the Arts faculty said that though we have achieved independence from Britain 61 years ago we are yet to achieve the real freedom in various spheres of national life.

The Independence Day celebration began with the hoisting of the national flag by Dr Richard Pais. College contingents of the NCC, Navy and Air force wings participated in the Independence Day function.

Many students of the College and teachers attended the Independence Day ceremony. They saluted the tri color on the solemn occasion. College principal Rev. Fr. Swebert D’ Silva addressed the function. Addressing students he called upon them to be true to the spirit of independence. Ashwath proposed a vote of thanks. Sweets were distributed at the end of the function.
